Alessandro Mendini strikes again
Alessandro Mendini, a figure of reference in Italian design in the second half of the 19th century is the winner of the fifth edition of the European Prize for Architecture, and the first Italian to receive this reward. Before him, those honored have included Bjarke Ingels (2010, Denmark), Graft Architekten (2011, Germany), TYIN Tegnestue Architects (2012, Norway) and Marco Casagrande (2013, Finland).
The European Prize for Architecture is an award for contemporary architecture, which celebrates architecture in its most cultured, humanistic and intellectual shades. And humanistic, cultured and intellectual is the figure of Alessandro Mendini.
An architect, theorist, philosopher, painter, visionary and planner, and previous director of the magazines Domus, Mode and Casabella, Mendini has been an icon for today's designers. His collaboration with Alchemy Design and Alessandro Guerriero is world-known. Today, Mendini collaborates with major brands such as Alessi, Bisazza, Bisazza, Philips, Cartier, Swatch, Hermés, Venini and many others. In the gallery below are some examples of the work of Mendini, from architecture to design, furnishings and equipment.
