Mercato San Lorenzo

Mercato di San Lorenzo at Florence by Archea Associati

On the 140th anniversary of the Mercato di San Lorenzo Archea Associati have renovated the work of Giuseppe Mengoni to create a new "theater of flavor" in the centre of Florence.

The historic Mercato di San Lorenzo is the latest addition to a European itinerary of food-culture.Through the integration of lightweight, flexible structures and furniture the large, empty ground flour space has been transformed into individual shops and eateries seemingly positioned along a street or piazza. The open design allows the public to observe the workspaces and manual activity connected with the preparation of food, restoring the feeling of being in the market for a public square.
