The Villa of Fun
The former Villa Sottanis, in Casarza Ligure, has been transformed by the architects 5+1AA Alfonso Femia Gianluca Peluffo into a childrens’ cultural centre complete with library, games room and auditorium.
The aim of the project is to highlight the quadrangular structure of the building by reducing the number of rooms, in order to obtain larger spaces and eliminate the distribution system of the historic building. The stairs and external lift become a sort of “junction” attached to the main structure of the villa, providing a continuity between external gardens and the internal spaces of the former villa.
The project also pays homage to Gianni Rodari, one of the greatest fairytale writers of the 20th century, through the playful use of a number of his verses on the exterior facade.
